7/18/10 Rusty Kettle Pub, Wharton NJ
Even longer than the previous day's concert! A performance of Springsteenian
proportions. Over 4 hours of mayhem, with a little help from special guests "The
Washington All-Stars" (A pair of very talented guitar slingers - friends of Tim).

SET LIST
This was a short set. Things were running behind and there were two other bands to go on.
1. In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree – I don’t know the origins of the original song. It is some kind of old Irish drinking song that my grandfather used to sing. He only knew one verse…so I took it upon myself to write several of my own original verses.
2. North Country Blues – Old Dylan folk song about the decay of a once proud mining town. With a recession imminent…it seems to have some relevance. The audience wasn’t sure whether to applaud or not. Exactly the reaction I was hoping for.
3. She’s Illuminated
4. The Riddle of Life
5. The Countdown
6. Walter Reed – The first ever live performance of this. I think it went extremely well…very passionate. By the last verse my voice was a growl.
7. Chimes of Freedom – another Dylan number because I was feeling it. I shortened it to 4 verses because it just wasn’t the right crowd for this type of long poetic number.
8. The Kids are Alright – I dedicated this to my sister (fellow Who fan)…but she couldn’t make it to the show due to work.
October 6th 2007 – THE CROSSROADS – 78 North Avenue Garwood NJ.
Archie Solo Acoustic
SET LIST
1. Living in Violent Times – An old song by the 80’s power pop band The Barracudas. For some reason, I thought it was appropriate due to the fact that tonight’s concert was a benefit for the victims of the recent Virginia Tech massacre. After the song, I acknowledged the cause and gave a shout-out to MusiciansOnCall.org ; a charitable organization that brings music and musicians to the hospitalized.
2. The Neighbor – OK version. The nerves were raging.
3. She’s Illuminated – Ditto.
4. The Riddle of Life – Better. Started to settle down. The whiskey was kicking in. The rest of the set went fine.
5. The Heathen
6. No Penance
7. Media Giant
8. Your Grace – I kept messing up the one tricky chord in the song due to sweaty hands (it was hot up there). Otherwise a spirited version.
9. Headlines – I started this one with some banter about the Heathen character...how he was persecuted for speaking his mind and how this song was his big soliloquy against the evil and injustice of modern society. Nobody seemed to give a shit.
10. The Countdown
11. The Center Ring
12. The Ringmaster
13. Elvis Costello Medley (Possession/No Action/Hand in Hand/Mystery Dance) – I started this one with a rap about how I took my kids to see Chuck Berry at the park in Cranford last week, how I was taking my oldest daughter Victoria to see Springsteen in a few days, and joked about the importance of educating our children. Then I segued into the fact that Victoria thinks I sound like Elvis Costello…thus asking the audience to be the judge. I think this went over very, very well…especially the “Mystery Dance” section where I rocked it out pretty fiercely.
August 11th 2007 – THE CROSSROADS – 78 North Avenue Garwood NJ.

SET LIST
1. The Neighbor – This is a short song that sets up the narrative. It is slow and heavy with a persistent chiming E chord. It’s good song to warm up my voice to. By the time I got through it, the nerves were cooling off as well.
2. She’s Illuminated – I started this too fast and I hit one too many bum vocal notes. Those who have heard me play this before knew I blew it. The audience politely applauded.
3. The Riddle of Life - My voice was still shaky and my timing was off, but the performance had a little juice going for it. This was always intended to be one of those “crowd pleaser” type of songs. I was strangely touched when the audience attempted to clap along as I attempted to find the rhythm.
4. The Heathen – This is just a short song that moves the story to the next phase. I got through it fine with no mishap and no reaction whatsoever from the audience. Basically what I was expecting.
5. No Penance – This is a key song for me…and I am still trying to find a comfortable key to sing it in! I started in D this time and bellowed my way through. Luckily, the song speaks for itself and I think it made an impression.
6. Media Giant – I blazed through this one pretty well and I felt as if I was finally starting to hit my stride. An old band mate named Scott was in the audience and he later told me he liked the song. He thought it was called “Meaty Vagina”…which explains why he probably liked it.
7. Wishing Well – I originally wrote this back in the 80’s as a reflection on Reagan’s “trickle down economics”. It seemed to fit the theme of “Bread and Circuses” so I resurrected and partially re-wrote it. It’s a catchy little sumbitch. I’m not fond of playing it, but when I pull it off, people seem to like it. I pulled it off well enough tonight.
8. A Very Special Girl – Despite a few over-reaching vocal moments, I think I nailed this one.
9. I Do Solemnly Swear – Ditto. My confidence was rising.
10. Your Grace – Mike and my sister-in-law Amy both think this is my best song. I played it for them and nailed it. Great crowd reaction.
11. Headlines – A quiet song that seethes with anger and threatens to explode at any moment before dissolving into a whispered threat. I pushed all the right buttons and had the Crossroads in the palm of my hand.
12. The Countdown – another crowd pleaser. The chorus is so simple and catchy, people seem to miss how devastating and frightening the lyrics are. I’ve played this one much better a hundred times, but it went alright tonight.
13. The Center Ring – Time was running out so I skipped “Meet the Heathen” and did a fine version of this. It is the song where the grim fates of most of the characters are met. I could not play any version of Bread and Circuses without including this one.
14. The Ringmaster - Likewise for this one. Aside from a false start, I regrouped and blasted it out.
15. In Dreams – Yes…the Roy Orbison Song. I had to do it for three reasons; 1. I love the song, 2. It’s ballsy to even attempt it, and 3. I’m touched by the way Roy overcame such terrible personal tragedy and turned it into such beautiful art. I can relate to that. This was played in memory of him and my father. If my voice hadn’t cracked in one or two key places, it would have been the best version I could possibly have done. One day I will play this onstage and make people weep. That is my goal.
