Now playing: Stay tuned. 68 A.D is currently in the studio but frequents The Stone Pony in Asbury Park and The Crossroads in Garwood.
Behind their scene: With numeric and historic symbolism, the band plucks its name from the year some members were born, the cost of their rehearsal space -- $68 for three hours -- and high school football numbers.
The A.D. refers to the band's first project, a rock opera, "Bread and Circuses"; also, a statement by Julius Caesar: "If you keep the peasants fed (bread) and entertained (circuses), you can easily control the masses.
"We took that to the new era where bread is symbolized by fast food (McDonalds) and the circuses are replaced by television, movies and the like," said drummer Joey Leshko of Long Valley. "It turns out that in the year 68 A.D. there were four Roman emperors, as three of them were murdered. This all occurred in the era of bread and circuses."
What they play: The energy put forth in their name comes through in their music. They're inspired musically by metal and punk of the '80s and '90s, and lyrically by Wright's angst with the government and corporate America and the "tragedies and triumphs of life in general for the common man."
A union of longtime friends and six degrees of separation, the band collaborated 18 months ago and since then has ripped out "Bread and Circuses" and "Hell's Tenants," which has earned airplay on New York station WRXP, 101.9 FM.
"The thought of working in a cubicle equated to spending time in hell," Leshko said. "It touches on two songs from the album, 'Cube Farm' and 'Hell's Tenants.'"

Gig Reviews

August 7th, 2008 - 68AD at The National Underground "NYC"
68AD plus special guest vocalist Paul Petruccelli
Quotable quote: "Nobody buy any more drinks.." Suzette

A short 42 minute set featuring the meat of our "A" material.  The club was smaller than we expected to say the least,  picture 68 A.D. playing in your family room and that's about the size of it.  The house supplied drum set was not only small in size but was also of very poor quality.  All of this against us we still played our hearts out.  The intital assault into Neil Young's Tonight's The Night was at stage volume usually reserved for outdoor festivals.  It was loud!!! An acoustic version of No Pennance right into Hell's Tenants and then we were right in the pocket with a good clean mix.  The songs that followed were Wishing Well, Your Grace, Die in my footsteps, Ground Zero, The CountDown, Walter Reed, and The Riddle of Life.  The hilights included playing Ground Zero in NYC and the 3 minute pre-solo for the Riddle of Life.  Being a band that usually plays live sets of 20+ songs we were all dissapointed to play such a short set.  We were just getting warmed up, but hey we'll tear it up somewhere soon!!!  Thanks again to all who travelled over and under the river to catch this short but sweet set from 68 A.D. see all of you 68 ADdicts soon.

June 28th, 2008 - 68AD at the Crossroads "Hell's Tenants Release Party"

68AD plus special guest vocalist Paul Petruccelli
Quotable quote: "Does anyone have any Geritol for Joey..." Art

A blistering 2 hour performance...  A nice turnout from our fans and lots of CD's were handed out.  Not as many locals as we are used to having to fill out the crowd, it's tough to draw in north Jersey in the summertime...  Hi-lights included opening with Neil Young's "Tonights the Night", The Heathen (Thrash Marley) and a tear jerking rendition of Ground Zero.  Actually the whole set smoked so there were 21 hi-lights!!!

5. Hell's Tennants

May 16th, 2008 - 68AD UNPLUGGED at the Crossroads 5/16/08

Art and John of 68AD plus special guest vocalist Paul Petruccelli
Quotable quote: "Good evening multitudes..." Art

An amazing 35 minute performance...and all six persons in attendence will agree
to it. World premeires* included three originals never before played live, some
deep covers and Art's attempt at harmonica playing. Paul added crucial harmony
vocals and we may see him onstage with the full band in June. Paul also dabbles
in horn playing, including the almighty sax...hmmmmm. Can anyone say "Maverick"?
John's bluesy leads on the Neil Young song were also a highlight.
You had to be there (but probably weren't)!

1. Ground Zero*
2. She's Illuminated
3. Riddle of Life
4. Listen to the Lion (Van Morrison cover)*
5. Heathens, Whores and Politicians*
6. Wishing Well
7. Walter Reed
8. Black Horse*
9. Unsatisfied (Replacements cover)*
10. Tonight's the Night (Neil Young cover)*

April 5th, 2008 - 68 AD Played to a packed house in Garwood Saturday night 4/5/2008. The band had a lot of fans in attendance as well as the support of the locals and the others who showed up. The band laid out a blistering one and a half hour aural assault hi-lited by the debut of The Heathen a power thrash remake of Bob Marley's classic song. A rousing version of Walter Reed and Wishing Well were also big hits with the crowd. The covers were led by Hendix's Voodoo Chile which was a crowd pleaser getting a huge response. All in all it was a great set and there is more to come soon!!!
