68 A.D. is a hard rockin band from NJ. Each member brings their own range of influences including bands and artists such as Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick, Bob Dylan, Slayer, Husker Du, and The Ramones. At the core of the band are the roots of 80's - 90's heavy metal and punk. The original material goes beyond all of the individual influences and has it's own unique sound. The lyrical content is fueled by internal aggression caused by aggravation with the government, corporate America, and the tragedies and triumphs of life in general for the common man. Overall this is no nonsense R-n-R crank out the Les Paul's and both bass drums and LET'S ROCK!!!
Q: What in blazes is 68AD?

Posted July 19th by Art 68AD's Double Header Summer endurance test was a rousing success. On Saturday, we played our longest set (up to that point). The well received performance consisted of 35 choice covers and originals, along with lively banter and general horsing around. Then on Sunday, WE TOPPED IT with an OVER FOUR HOUR barnburner of a show containing 45 songs and featuring special guest guitarists (dubbed the Washington All-Stars) on a few long, jammy numbers. See our set-list page under Gigs for a complete rundown. It was a weekend of Springsteenian proportions. Stay tuned for more details on an upcoming August appearance...and a special 9/11 show. Posted June 14th by Art Big double-header weekend coming up for the A.D. On Saturday, we play a....I can't believe it myself...a private wedding reception! What kind of wedding would have US OF ALL PEOPLE as entertainment you ask? A very hip wedding is what. THEN on Sunday, we rip it up for 4 hours in the hot sun in Wharton! See our gigs pages for more detail. Ps. We have a new lead guitarist trying out with us for these gigs. We'll keep you posted on that exciting new development. One of these days we'll start plotting out our next recording venture. Got plenty of songs on the woodpile. In the meantime, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (my spin-off band) is recording a CD of original acoustical type songs. Google around for more info on that. Trot will get mad if I promote GBU too much on this site. You don't want to make Trot angry. Mel Gibson pissed Trot off once. Now look what's happened to him. That is all. Posted June 18th by Art Last Saturday's gig with Uncle Yellow at the first annual Chectstock festival in Tom's River was a raging success. 68AD went heavy on the covers and went over big with a Kinks double shot (joined by members of Uncle Yellow)and a version of London Calling that would do Strummer proud. Later, members of 68AD joined Uncle onstage for raging versions of 867-5309 (Jenny) and I Wanna Be Sedated. Check our Gigs pages for a complete setlist and upcoming events. On a sadder note, our lead guitarist, the incomparable Mr. Itchy Fingers has taken an amicable leave from the band to pursue other priorities including a potential out of state move. His shredding will be missed! Join us all in wishing him well! Posted May 5th by Art Holy smoke! What a great show and impressive turnout for our benefit last Saturday in Kenilworth. We raised a nice chunk of change for the Sean Hanna foundation and gave the crowd a triple shot of balls to the wall rock and roll. Back from the Dead laid down a metal maelstrom featuring heavy hitting classics from Priest, Metallica and more. Art joined them for a spontaneous version of Jethro Tull's Hymn 43 and then 68AD blitzed through an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink set featuring an even mix or originals and covers. Then the fabulous Uncle Yellow capped off the evening as only they can, with a rowsing set of faves. Highlights included a stunning take on Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting". Thanks to all who showed up for this great cause. Posted Apr 22nd by Art Yes we are still alive. it's been a while since I updated the site. Rehearsals are going well and gigs are materializing. 68AD will be ripping up the stage at Apples again with friends Uncle Yellow and very special guests Back from the Dead (a brand new group formed by 68AD's former drummer and always dear comrade Joe Sr.). This time it is for another worthy and special cause: The Sean Hanna Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. www.seanhannafoundation.org Also 68AD will be playing a private outdoor event on June 12th, at the invitation of Uncle Yellow and host Chet. The event is christened "Chetstock" and will be legendary. Trust me See our calendar and gigs page for more detail. Posted Mar 31st by Art Thanks to the Crossroads and our good buds in Uncle Yellow for another great night at the Crossroads. What a show. Check out our setlist page for a complete damage assessment. Big new brewing for May. Stay tuned and Happy Spring. Posted Mar 20th by Art Yeah, we are still alive and ready for the Crossroads on 3/27. Are you? Hope to see you there. We also have a new Apples benefit brewing for May. Posted Feb 22nd by Art We've been asked by our friends in the band Uncle Yellow to fill the midnight slot at the Crossroads on 3/27. Of course we agreed. No need to bring your No-Doz kids. We'll keep you awake. Posted Feb 15TH by Art What a show at Apple's last night!! Over 100 fans and friends turned up for a truly memorable evening. Art and Trot took the stage first with a few choice acoustic songs from the someday-to-be-recorded "Kenilworth" concept album. Then Art's new band "The Good the Bad and the Ugly" tore through a rousing set of originals and covers including a rendition of Van Morrison's "St. Dominick's Preview" that really wowed everyone. The Rodeo Clowns were next with a fantastic set of rootsy covers and a version of Neil Young's "Powderfinger" that closed their set in breathtaking fashion. Then the band Rubberfoot, with fearsome Marshall halfstacks in tow, lit up the place which a set of beloved covers featuring "Cat Scratch Fever", Judas Priest's "Metal Gods" and other heavy classics. At long last, 68AD hit the stage with staggering intensity. Sticking to mostly originals, the boys blitzed through a set that never let up for a second. Check out the setlist section of our gigs page for more detail. It was a remarkable night. Posted Jan 23rd by Art Please join us at Apple's Bar in Kenilworth on Saturday Feb 13th for a very special evening. Oh...and please let us know what you think. Possible gigs materializing for later this month and early Feb. Stay tuned. Rumored Super bowl gig at Morgan's will not happen. Posted Jan 1ST by Art Spent some time in Apple's Bar in Kenilworth last night. Went to see some old school chums and their band "Uncle Yellow". Great cover band with a heavy 90's grunge influence. Got a chance to sing some back-up on the Tommy Tutone classic "867-5309 (Jenny Jenny)". Check these cats out when you can. Meanwhile, we are lining up all kinds of gigs and events for 2010. Too hungover to write anymore now...although I am formulating a new rant to ring in the decade and will probably post it in a day or two. Ps. The free download for our new album could be pulled any minute. Stop lolly gagging will ya? Oh...and please give us some feedback. You don't have to like it you know. It's all good. For your GPS: the bar is next to the: Boundary Motel 408 Us Highway 46 Mine Hill, NJ 07803 NEW SONGS WILL BE PREMIERED AND WITH THIS BEING THE LIVE DEBUT OF OUR NEW DRUMMER JOE JR. IT WILL CERTAINLY QUALIFY AS AN HISTORIC MOMENT. WHO KNOWS...MAYBE WE WILL PASS OUT ADVANCE COPIES OF THE NOW COMPLETE ALBUM?? Posted DEC 14TH, 2009 by Art 68AD played a last minute gig at Morgan’s bar in Kenvil, N.J. this past Sunday and have been asked to come back this coming Saturday 12/19. This has not been 100% confirmed yet so stay tuned. Sunday’s gig was broken up into three sets that were heavy on covers featuring a version of Sympathy for the Devil that stopped everyone in their tracks. This came during a typically monumental “Maverick Medley” that also incorporated some Ramones and J. Geils band. Unfortunately, Itchy Fingaz could not make it to the gig, so no Voodoo Chile this time. A version of “Mr. Tambourine Man” was cooked up on the spot for the bar‘s owner (a song never rehearsed) and it actually went over well! “Father Christmas” and “Santa Claus is Back in Town” (not rehearsed since LAST Christmas) were also well received and added some holiday cheer to the proceedings. MEANWHILE, AS YOU KNOW THE ALBUM IS DONE AND WE ARE JUST FINALIZING THE PACKAGING BEFORE MAKING IT AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION. We may offer it for free download on a limited basis, so check in with this site in the coming days. Otherwise, you will be able to order it for a very fair and cheap price through this site, or at our gigs. Our previous EP “Hell’s Tenants” is still available for free download, so check that out if you haven’t yet. If you like it, you’ll dig the new stuff even more. Check out the “Rantings” section for my personal take on the album. On another note, be on the lookout for a side project I’m involved in. It’s a three piece band called “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. I’m the “Good’ so you will have to figure out who the other two band members represent. This is a little different than 68AD, being more blues and folk oriented, with a touch of jazz and country. We are liable to play a gig or two very soon. Our former drummer Joe (who actually played with us Sunday) has also got a heavy metal side-project going so look for that. I suspect certain members of 68AD may sneak behind my back to join in on that :-) WOW...WE ARE SPAWNING NEW BANDS...IS THERE NO END TO THE MADNESS? Wait until 2010. You ain’t seen madness yet. Speaking of spawning...warm wishes to Joe Jr. and his family as they eagerly await the new arrival to their household. A real holiday blessing there. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!! Posted DEC 11TH, 2009 by Art Album is done! We get the master tonight and then figure out how to get it to you all! Posted Nov 25TH, 2009 by Art Yeah...yeah...yeah. We're still alive. We need to mix four more songs and the album will be dropped on ya like a 16 ton block. Check back in another week or so. Happy Thanksgiving! Posted Nov 5TH, 2009 by Art Decisions have been made and we have commited to finishing the new album by 11/15. We had to cut a few songs due to budget over-runs but you will still get at least 10 chunks of blistering audio mayhem in your stocking this Xmas. Rehearsals are becoming more regular and so am I (ah...sweet Metamucil). Look out world. Posted Nov 1st, 2009 by Art New drummer Joe (not to be confused with old drummer Joe) is working out great. Album completion continues to be delayed. Maybe by Xmas. Posted Oct 23rd, 2009 by Art Work continues on the new album. So close...so close. Also it looks like we have a new drummer. Be patient dear faithful. We'e coming back in a big way.
Posted Sept 28th, 2009 by Art Response to our plea for a drummer has been great. Auditions are underway with several strong candidates. Work continues on the new album. Me and John did a righteous and intense acoustic set in Linden Saturday night. Thanks for the kind reception and congrats to Earthquake studios for 30 great years. The night before, I was hanging at the legendary Apollo theater in beautiful Harlem to witness the taping of Elvis Costello's "Spectacle" T.V. show with guest Bruce Springsteen. That was one for the history books children. Look for the premiere on the Sundance channel in December. You may even see a very awed and happy me in the audience. Going to see Bruce next Friday at Giants Stadium. Posted Sept 24th, 2009 Come see John and Art jam at The Cup Entertainment Complex & Grill 1410 East Elizabeth Avenue, Linden New Jersey 908-486-8925. We will open an evening of many bands to commemorate the 30th anneversary of Earthquake Studios (our homebase). Be there at 5:00 to see our acoustic set. Hang around for the fun and debauchery. DRUMMER WANTED ASAP! Contact us through this site and let's talk. This is a unique opportunity to join an emerging and highly respected band as we prepare to take things to the next level. Our beloved bro Joe will be taking an undetermined leave of abscence (or a "Black Sabbath-atical" as we like to call it). Joe will remain involved behind the scenes for the time being. PLEASE HELP US OUT! Posted Sept 2nd, 2009 STILL recording. Meanwhile the band, yes the BAND Ellwood, have been invited to play something called "Quakefest" in Linden N.J. on Saturday Sept. 26. This is an event sponsored by our very own homebase rehearsal space; the legendary Earthquake Studios. Stay tuned for more details. This will be the first band gig in a long time...and there is much pent up aggression to unleash. Be patient fans. A new album and a new live set are on the way. REALLY. Now go get your f'ing shinebox! Posted Aug 15th, 2009 Still recording. Album should be DONE by October. No new gigs lined up yet. Posted July 29th, 2009 The Brooklyn show was great. Paul provided stellar backing vocals as Art weaved his tales of misery to a very receptive audience. Highlights included the world premiere of "Frontier Town" and the best ever version of "Walter Reed" methinks. You had to be there...but you weren't, were you...ya fink. Working on scheduling some summer gigs - full band and acoustic. Look for news in a few days. Posted June 18th, 2009 Thanks to everyone who came to the Crossroads on the 12th. It certainly felt good to be back in the saddle after such a long hiatus. Lo and behold, we gave one of our best (and longest) performances. The band was firing on all cylinders with fire being the operative word. Several world premeires from our forthcoming LP (now almost half complete) were well received, along with an insane version of "the Maverick" that morphed into a high octane 17 minute medley that would have ended any other band's set due to sheer exhaustion. Not us bruddah. We played four more songs after that, culminatining in a version of Neil Young's "Tonight's the Night" that scorched everythinig within a two mile radius. I NEED MORE...and so do you. Fear not. We'll be back soon!
Posted June 9th, 2009 "Hell's Tenants" was played again on WXRP New York Sunday night! Thanks Brother Russo. See the "Rantings" page on this site for more info. See you all at the Crossroads Friday!

Starting this Sunday and every Sunday night thereafter, Anything, Anything with Rich Russo can be heard locally on New York’s newest Rock station, 101.9 RXP and can be streamed worldwide at www.1019rxp.com . The format of the show will cover all genres of rock with every song and topic being hand picked by the on-air personality Rich Russo. The Anything, Anything title comes from Dramarama’s song of the same name. "Rich Russo is a passionate music fan who articulates his love of rock in an innovative and captivating way and we are truly excited that he is joining the RXP family” said Leslie Fram, 101.9 RXP Program Director and co-host of Matt Pinfield in the Morning. “He's not your average fan…he spends 100% of his off time traveling the world to see his favorite bands and he'll bring that same insight and love for music to his show every Sunday!" Russo says, “Music is the most personal and yet one of the most shared experiences you can have. I don’t expect that everyone will like every song choice on the show, but hopefully for the times they don’t, they’ll stick around for the 3 minutes till the next song comes on!” A music aficionado and collector, Russo boasts a collection of vinyl and cd’s that has approximate 100,000 pieces. He is also on the Board of Directors for Musicians On Call, a unique charity whose mission is to bring live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities to aid healing from all types of sickness through the power of music. He averages seeing 1 to 2 live shows a week, and has seen the E Street Band live close to 400 times as has seen close to 50 Pearl Jam shows and numerous other bands at various stages of their careers. Russo grew up in New Jersey listening to New York and New Jersey radio and remembers how the DJs were almost as big as the music they were playing. Said Russo: “DJ’s need an identity and need to go beyond just playing what research or record labels are pitching which is the appeal of 101.9 RXP. Part of the woes of other radio rock stations, is the formula it has become. Focus groups and call out hooks, it’s ridiculous…a great song is a great song regardless of its source and the audience is hungry and wants the DJ to help them mold their music choices. RXP breaks the corporate mold so I’m excited to be part of the team!” Anything, Anything will go deep on artists you know, hopefully introduce you to some artists you missed and will find some great new things. For more information, listen to 101.9 RXP and catch the show every Sunday at 9pm. Posted Sept 11th, 2008 - Shaking off the rust from a Summer where we barely rehearsed, 68AD played our best gig yet at the Barn in Randolph last night. We were the third of four bands to play. The consensus of the decent sized (completely unfamiliar) crowd was that we stole the evening. “Ground Zero”, especially on the eve of the 7th anniversary of Sept. 11th, was extremely poignant and was met with an ovation. A life affirming moment in these dark and difficult times. The band will be coming back to a town near you soon. In the meantime, we hope you can support us for a special evening in Westfield on Oct 1st. This gig has potential record label/ industry exposure ramifications so we need a CROWD!
